About the Practice

Contreras Tamayo Landscape Design is an international creative practice based in Madrid, specialising in bespoke residential landscapes. With a solid portfolio in Sydney and an identity forged between the rigor of the Hamptons, Atlantic luminosity, and the scale of the Australian landscape, the firm redefines the concept of outdoor living through a refined and balanced aesthetic.

Founded by Yolanda Contreras in 2024, the studio creates timeless landscapes that enhance the lifestyle of our clients through intentional design. We design immersive outdoors that integrate nature into daily life, providing a sense of profound disconnection rooted in a discerning aesthetic sensibility.

Originally from Madrid, Yolanda’s affinity to the environment was born during summers spent in Cádiz, where she was captivated by that unique "sense of place" that gardens can hold. This early fascination evolved into a career dedicated to creating landscapes with their own narrative, naturally dialoguing with the architecture and the people who inhabit them.

Yolanda’s expertise is backed by a strong technical foundation, holding both a Bachelor’s and a

Master’s Degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

Her style was refined during a transformative three-year period in The Hamptons, New York, working for one of the region’s most prominent landscape firms. This period solidified her appreciation for classical symmetry, understated legacy, and the disciplined elegance of the great estates on the American East Coast.

Yolanda’s expertise is backed by a strong technical foundation, holding both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

In 2017, Yolanda moved to Sydney to join a leading Australian landscape architecture firm, gaining an intimate knowledge of the Australian environment while delivering bespoke residential projects.

After an eight-year tenure in Sydney, Yolanda founded her own practice in 2024. Today, with over a decade of international experience and a portfolio of complex residential projects, Yolanda leads Contreras Tamayo from Madrid, developing projects within Spain while frequently returning to Sydney to oversee the delivery of her international works.

From this dual presence, the studio welcomes new projects in both hemispheres, providing a global perspective and technical mastery that ensures a meticulous analysis of heritage, light, and the enduring beauty of every site.
