A Mediterranean Sanctuary: Where the Riad Meets the Coast

Reminiscent of the intimate and evocative atmosphere of a traditional Moroccan Riad, our Gordons Bay project is a thoughtful homage to Mediterranean layout and materiality. Infused with a contemporary twist inspired by the client's hometown of Barcelona, the design provides a young family with a profound sense of retreat from the pace of Sydney life.

Designed as a visual extension of the home’s interior, the lush oasis is visible from every room, perfectly framing panoramic views over Gordons Bay. The transformation involved a significant reconfiguration of the site: an aged swimming pool was removed to make way for a more functional, elegantly fenced pool area, alongside a generous, organic daybed designed for soaking in the coastal sun.

Every detail—from the custom outdoor shower to the bespoke integrated storage—evokes the warm, nostalgic summers of Casablanca and Barcelona so dear to the client. The structural elements are complemented by feature walls and Zellige tile borders that add a layer of artisanal texture. By softening the built form with layers of greenery and curated decorative pots, we’ve created a versatile and inviting space where the family can truly disconnect and enjoy the coast.
